Beth Israel is a congregation of 136 families, composed of individuals from many countries of origin with diverse business, professional and academic backgrounds.  Situated in the heart of historic Kingston, Ontario and part of the 1000 Island Region there is easy access to the US, Mega cities such as Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

Celebrating its 100 year Anniversary in 2010 as a Modern Orthodox Synagogue, members decided to change affiliation to align the congregation to the Conservative/Egalitarian Ritual observances in 2012. Women are now counted and active in participation during weekly Shabbot and High Holiday Services.

Our members are comfortable with this modern conservative affiliation and observances of all religious, spiritual and community functions. Beth Israel prides itself in being a welcoming Conservative Egalitarian Congregation in which members of all ages, nationalities and lifestyles enjoy meaningful events and are encouraged to participate in the true spirit of Jewish community experience and worship.

Most significantly, Beth Israel gives individuals, couples, and families the opportunity to share a life cycle events and to feel part of the vibrant and caring Kingston Jewish Community.

There are many opportunities to volunteer, join and participate in many different activities and groups, including adult education events, learning the basics of Service participation, attending lectures, and aligned organizational gatherings.

Beth Israel Auxiliary assists in enhancing Beth Israel events and gatherings such as sponsored dinners along with holding an annual Auxiliary bakery, new and collectibles Bazaar.  Auxiliary also augments Talmud Torah School, providing a Model Seder, Purim baskets, etc.

The Beth Israel Talmud Torah School offers classes from preschool through grade 7. The school runs Wednesdays from 4-6 p.m. and Sunday mornings from 9:30-12:30 p.m. Hebrew High is offered to those students of the high school level, one night per week. Talmud Torah is a vital function of Beth Israel and contributes to the overall stability of the Congregation.

For university students there is a welcoming Hillel Organization which gathers in Otterburn House, Beth Israel's property next door to the Synagogue. Beth Israel and its membership congregation has enjoyed a warm relationship with the Jewish students at Queen’s University, St. Lawrence College, and the Royal Military College (RMC). Members over the years have welcomed students to break bread together in homes, providing home cooked meals and a sense of being “at home” cordiality.

Beth Israel offers a unique self- assessment due structure to meet any financial situation. This system, relies on personal integrity and has been integral part of membership for many years, meeting the individual needs with flexibility and choice.
